Our baby oysters have grown so fast! You may recall that last Fall Severn House partnered with the Live Water Foundation and the Severn River Association to provide a home for growing oysters. Ten cages of oyster spat were installed along our bulkhead near B Dock. The oysters have been quietly growing all winter and spring filtering the water in our creek. They have received an excellent report card from the professional oyster gardeners and are now ready to move on to their permanent home: a sanctuary in the Severn River.
The move is scheduled for Sunday, June 12, around 10 AM. Come on down to say farewell and wish them all the best as they join other oysters in helping to restore the Chesapeake Bay. Feel free to ask the Live Water Foundation volunteers questions and be sure to snap some pictures!
Many thanks to all of the Severn House residents who generously contributed to this program. We anticipate another season of being foster oyster parents in the fall. This is an especially convenient way to support Chesapeake Bay restoration without getting wet or dirty. Thanks again!
